This may be a long shot, but just to be sure, did you remove the very top tranny bolt (12 o'clock position if you will)? I helped a friend of mine replace his clutch (on a Nissan 240) a couple of weeks ago and found ourselves in the exact same situation. We thought we had removed all the tranny bolts but were only able to separate the transmission from the block by less than an inch. BTW, we had to remove the part of the exhaust manifold in order to get a wrench around that last bolt.

You need to lower the subframe, with the engine, about 3 inches for clearance....the four corner bolts are long enough to act as supports for the engine and subframe. It's also explained in the manual....no biggie really.

I've removed the tranny with the engine in place. You need to detach the exhaust manifold from the cat so the engine can be tilted down at the rear. The hardest bolt is one of the starter motor ones that needs lots of socket extentions placed end to end.

Unbolt the clutch slave cylinder, then pull the fork outwards.

Two seconds after I read the new replies, I ran back downstairs, yanked the rubber boot off, slid the fork out and VOILA.
This just made my day. Thanks a lot guys.
