My mind is so boggled. VTEC operation is clear as day on these cars. You can hear and feel it clearly change over. My car has a stock intake/cat/exhaust. I can hear and feel it switch.
Were you just not revving to 6k before? I believe I had asked "how are you determining that its not working"?
Automatic VTEC cars always fall out of VTEC on full throttle shifts for the first few gears.
Any Honda needs to be revved to-or close to the rev limit to have any chance of staying in VTEC on the 1-2-3 shifts.
I just want to know how you came to the conclusion that it wasn't working, because I am extremely puzzled.
I guess...as a takeaway for future posters, the easiest, most hill billy way to check for VTEC is to:
-Remove the airbox lid.
-Warm the car up to full operating temp.
-Drive in 2nd gear at 3K RPM. Floor it to redline.
The ridiculously loud ass apocalyptic noise you heard at 6k RPM was VTEC. Put the lid back on. It works.
