How's your knock sensor? Could you guys have touched it when you did the swap? OEM sensor?

We did, it broke.

Replaced it with a 2nd hand OEM knock sensor.

Doesn't give any errors, and apparently it shouldn't create these kind of problems.
But if someone has a different opinion to this, I'd be happy to listen to it!

"The PCM uses this signal to alter the ignition timing and prevent detonation. It will compare this information with its preset tables to identify an engine knock or ping. If a ping is sensed it will retard the timing to protect the engine from this damaging pre-ignition."

You used fuel system cleaner and that will up the octane as well, higher octane = even less detonation.
If the sensor is acting up (too sensitive/sends wrong voltage?), ECU may retard the timing. So, it's a possibility I think.

I've been thinking the same thing in the past, but when I unplug the sensor, the engine doesn't behave differently?

Well, that could be the problem
It does the same thing with or without it, it should run like crap without it. Who knows, I'll see if I can get a hold of another one and test. I hear K20 (ep3) should be compatible.

I've been told the knock sensor shouldn't cause this because the ECU only needs it in higher revs?

So i have a good one for you that i just found out the hard way ... hows your ac running is it nice and cool ?? It could be too much coolant in the ac lines so the ac compressor repeatedly turns on and off causing a strain on the motor making a drop in revs every few seconds.

A/C is, in my case, fine. My problems started after an engine swap.

I don't use the a/c, I think it has a leak, I'll see to that when I have the time.

Changed fuel pump to stock, no difference. Except no more walbro whine (finally).
And both o2 sensors changed.
