Can you paint the valve cover?
Will standard automotive paint hold up on the valvecover if it is professionally prepped, primered, cleared?

As long as all the oils are removed from the valve cover, and the painter follows the paint prep and cure times reccomended by the paint manufacturer it will be fine.
Powdercoating usually is a tougher finish, that is more scratch resistant.
I've seen Street rods with engines painted body color. As long as they prepped the surface correctly, the paint held up fine.

If you are going to have it professionally cleaned/prepped, I'd just suggest that you just get it powder coated. You should be able to find a shop that will do it for less than $50. Powder Coating is going to stand up to the engine temps much better than normal paint and is much more resistant to staining and scratching.

Hmm.. Well I might just go with my original plan to have the valvecover powdercoated matte black and then have the coil cover sprayed the same color as my turbo piping. I think that would look pretty nice. Thanks for the info guys!
