Derp. Best price at a local dealer I've found is a tad under $3k. Still not too shabby.

Seeing as how the only issue my engine had was a scored #4 wall, the head has about 100k miles on it but is still in excellent condition, what would you do? Buy a used motor/longblock, or a new shortblock and sell my shot shortblock?

If you want to be baller, buy a new F22 block and K20 head. There's an article in Honda Tuning about it.
it's not a k20 head- it is an f20/f22 head that was modified to use i-vtec. it uses some parts off of the k20.

If you order a new Honda engine, here's how it comes (minus oil filter and headgasket in this pic). Note the engine comes with timing chain and guides installed, so you drop your head on and she's ready. no need to pull front cover, everything is new and ready. Last time I checked (few weeks) my cost was 2800. I paid 1900 for the one in this pic, 5 or so years ago. Prices went up big time.

Block ordered, thanks for everyone's input! $3380 after tax for the block, headgasket, and knock sensor.

Post pics when you get it! They say when they'd have it?

Also i wonder if all S2000 motors are still hand built like they use to be?

Yes yes. Someone in my club (NYC Metro) posted actual video footage, inside the plant in japan, of them building s2ks by hand. Engines also. Search it up!
