Default Can non-adjusted valves lead to misfires?

So I was getting the p300-304 codes, and after doing some research, took the injectors to get cleaned and tested. cylinder 2 was way leaner than the rest 75ml compared to 82ml lowest. and after the cleaning it only came up to 82 while the res were at 90, 90, and 88. With the cleaned injectors back in, the ecu still flashes the CEL, flashing, with a p1399. This is a manufacturer specific powertrain code i researched and it too means random misfiring. I've replaced the plugs and checked 'em though they were pre-gapped. I'm wondering if a valve adjustment could be leading to this. It only happens at idle. I can turn it off while driving and when i'm idling at a light for a while it'll throw the code again. Here are my thoughts
1. dirty fuel filter?
2. Valve adjustment (Doing it anyway)
3. Could it be a bent valve?

I'd like to extinguish any possibilities of engine failure before i put on my comptech. Please, any comments or other trouble shooting strategy is welcome.
And i "whacked" my map connector three times and proceeded in wiggling it vigorously on until it clicked.

P1399 is a temporary DTC for any misfire. The P0300-304 is on the way if you have a 1399.

A dirty fuel filter is unlikely, as there is no serviceable filter. The pickup sock on the pump is the only thing filter like. For it to be clogged the engine would run very badly all the time, if it ran at all.

A valve that is to tight won't seal and cause a misfire. A bent valve will check very loose and not seal. Not sealing valve = misfire.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check those valves to see if any are too loose. You were right, p300-303 this time. It only happens at idle. If i turn it off and drive, i can stop and turn it back on a few times, but if i sit for a while at idle is when it throws the signal, and if the light is steady on, at stoplights it blinks. Hope this helps to further diagnose.

Blinking CEL indicates a more severe problem. Have it looked at ASAP.

Blinking CEL means a misfire bad enough to damage the Catalytic convertor, which is to be expected on a misfiring car.

I do 99.9% of my work aside from from machining. When i adjust the valves, is there anything specific i should look for? Excessively loose rocker...etc. I'll adjust the valves, do a comp. test and buy a leakdown tester (never done that b4) and post the results. My valve cover gasket set comes in friday. thanks for the response.

What's your milage? I have a theory that the MY00 and possibly the MY01 injectors may be weak and get like this around 50k miles.

I went through what sounds like the same thing, 48k miles got same codes, got the injectors cleaned/flow checked, worked for about 3k miles, more codes, bought used MY02 injectors, been running perfect ever since, over 5k miles.

Here's the thread.

Good luck.

i have 78k miles on my original fuel injectors. starts and runs just fine on them.

to the thread starter, have you tried new spark plugs, moving around the coil packs, etc?

I haven't tried swapping the coils, but i'm misfiring 3 out of 4 cylinders, so i wouldn't know where to begin unless i found someone else with a non-blinking s2k. I've changed the spark plugs. After the cleaning, Out of my original 4, only 2 flowed perfect and same with the second batch of used injectors two perfect. at 50 ps1, i had 90ml on four, 89ml on one, 88ml on two and 82ml on one. The lowest was my original cylinder 2 that flowe 75ml befor cleaning, 82ml after. I have 85k on the car. The second set was from an 01. I am curious now about the 02 inj, but i will do the valve adj. today after i get my valve gasket from honda now.(ordered Weds).
