I'd trust s2kpuddydad over an article. He's got tremendous amounts of experience building "Very strong" diff's for s2000's. I'm sure he's had a fair share of throwing in more aggressive final drive gears while building alot of those diff's.
I know I'll be giving him a call when I go boost to make that magically safe 400whp in my car(except I'll be looking into longer gears like a 3.9 final drive).
The 06 and newer NC Miata and RX8 use the same third member, I build and improve (make stronger) theses rears as well for the Miata guys.
The Miata uses a ring gear bolt pattern same as the S2000 and the RX8 uses a larger pattern. The gears in these newer third members will not interchange with our third member but, I can install gears from the S2000 in the Miata third member, don’t figure.
I do have to modify the NC third member to run the old style Mazda gear sets.
I just tried to install 2007 NC Miata 4.10 gears into an S2000 and fitment was not good. I can get them to set up but, the carrier is shifted to far left for proper axle fitment.
The 4.44 for our rear must be sourced from Mazda Speed for the 2005 an older 7” Miata.
These gears are not cheap but, they are by far the very best 4.44 ratio available for our car

I would consider Turbo Magazine a pretty credible source.

I'm not saying it isn't but I would trust S2kpuddydad before any/all magazine articles(even Turbo Magazine). S2kpuddydad has a great reputation on here. Along with Xviper, Billman and, may he rest in peace, Red Mx5. Can't really go wrong with either when it comes to honest answers and help regarding anything S2000 related.
