NO, you CAN NOT remove the black part.

The stock shifter is, in fact, multiple piecess separated by rubber, intended to dampen vibration, but you CAN NOT separate them without destroying the shifter. Even if you could, there would be no point.

What you are seeing in the second photo is an aftermarket shifter. Here is a photo of my Axial Flow shifter and the stock:

Well, possibly you could remove it and possibly weld an extension and then maybe thread the end and you know have a custome shifter that would be really cool...maybe...

it is hollow in the middle. i tried to cut it in half before and jb weld it back to make it shorter but didnt turn out right
