Default Camshaft marked up

Took the car in with 24,000klm for the Spark Plug recall and asked them to check the valve adjustment at the same time. As it turns out, one of the camshafts are marked up. They are contacting Honda before replacing under warranty. Is this a prelude to the #1 cylinder problem? All scheduled maintanence has been performed so I wonder what might have caused this.

I don't know... the service dept was closed when I picked up the car. I suspect they would have seen marks on the cam lobes as that would be the only thing visible during a valve adjustment. I would also like to know which cylinders were affected on the camshaft markings. All is said on the work order was "one of the camshafts are marked up-should be replaced-" If it was an oil problem, wouldn't the markings be 'blue' from excessive heat?

It could be scored (due to a manufacturing defect or oiling problem) or pitted (due to an oiling problem) which was common on the first generation of VFRs.

The Service supervisor is going to talk to the mechanic today and get back to me but basically, one of the cam lobes looks like sandpaper has been used to scratch it up because it is pitted to such an extent that it is very noticeable.
All valve adjustments were within tolerances prior to the valve adjustment.

The pitting comes from the lobe micro-welding itself to the rocker. I'd be surprised if you didn't need a rocker too. I'd also wild-guess that the rocker is the source of the oiling problem.

If that is the case (and it makes sense) what can be done to prevent it...
