Thumbs up Cam sensor failure

I got this CEL three times now. It happened once in the beginning of Nov.

I started the car got a CEL, went to drive it, then it wouldnt rev pass 3k. Stop the car turned it off check the oil and it was fine. Started the car then it rev pass 3k again. Went to autozone and they pulled the code for me, but didnt reset the CEL. Started the car the next day CEL went away. So I chalked it up to intermittent failure.

A month and a half later the CEL came back. Wouldnt rev pass 3k. Turned it off then back on and it would go pass 3k. CEL stayed on a little longer this time a couple of days.

Decided to swap both sensors out and the next day it did it again. Im at a lost. I checked the wires nothing appears to be damaged the plugs and the sensors are fine(even the ones that were orginally on the car).

I have a stock ap2 with a tp and exhaust with 40k miles. Have no work done to the car at all besides a valve adjustment done last summer (2008).

I tried searchin but couldnt fine much on this problem. Could it be the cold weather? I live in NJ btw. Im just at a lost.

Any ideas?

Thanks Dale

You have a "valve adjustment done last summer (2008)." So they have to remove the valve cover. When they removed it, they have to remove the connector from the cam sensors. They could have broken a wire in the harness, or the connectors are just loose and making a poor connection. Try to disconnect the sensors from the connectors and reseat the connectors. Lets see if that takes care of it.

These are the sensor(s) (Two on 00-05 and One on 06+) on the back/side on the valve cover.

P1361 is listed in my service manual as
Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor "A" (Top Dead Center (TDC) Sensor) Intermittent Interruption
Sensor "A", also known as sensor "1" is the one at the intake side.
I would concentrate on that connector and wire harness.

P0344 is not in my manual.

It is listed in the CEL FAQ on top of UTH.
It looks to be a generic OBDII code IMO.

thanks for looking, my friend told me i should take a closer look at the female connectors because he said if they are bad then they only get worst and worst as you disconnect and reconnect them. This makes sense as to when i replaced the sensors i got a CEL the next day. Ill take another look at them but i couldnt see anything wrong with the connector

Did you use contact cleaner on the electrical connections?

i havent tried that. I am always a lil uneasy of sprayin any type of liquid on electrical components. At this point ill try anything before breaking down to trace a wire. I imagine I can get this at a local auto parts store?
