Calling out all Mugen CAI owners
This was by far the best mod I made from a performance perspective.
However, there is an issue that is bugging me since installation. The unit drones at idle so loud that you can hear it inside the cabin. I thought I would get used to it, and although I would not get rid of it as a result, I did not.
I thought the noise was resulting from the air whistling thru the CAI or some other resonance effect. After all, the stock airbox has a separate chamber just for sound deadening purposes. But yesterday, when inspecting it close, it looks like the noise is a result of all that carbon fibre vibrating. You can actually feel it by touch.
So my questions are: Do you all get this droning at idle? I know that randyc1 has it as he alerted me to it. Would some rubber isolation improve matters? Anyone complained to King about it?

If its not on the top side of the air intake you could try some dynamat. That would deaden any vibrations. Though if its on the top side I think it would really not be that good.......visually!

Any other Mugen CAI owners?

Luis, mine doesn't make any noise whatsoever, except the slight increase in noise in exhaust note. Perhaps rstark (another member on this board) can help me post a clip of my engine sound with the hood up so you can compare.

Luis-
I took a long listen from outside the car with the hood both raised and lowered. Other than a faint whistle heard at the outlet, the unit was very quiet and exhibited no vibration. That whistle was not audible from within the cockpit.
I have the long snorkel model btw.

Mine is the shorter version. It's interesting that Mugen claims this is quieter... Maybe my unit is touching something it shouldn't. I'll have to take a closer look.
Any other owners?

Luis,
I'm with everyone else. Except for a faint whistle I don't have any noise coming from it. Do you have the old version of the intake or the "newer" one that doesn't go all the way down?
