A resistor still isn't going to fake out the motor start up draw that is monitored by the current sensor = CEL

it doesn't technically check for a lean condition, it checks to ensure the cat is heated up to proper temps. thats why on a cold morning you may hear the pump turn back on for another 10 seconds.

The pump running 2x is the pump monitor running. The flow monitor runs at the 1st cold start.

Good info here!

I looked at the electronic diagram on our car. There's a box under driver-side fender. It has an airpump current-sensing circuit in it. It reports 2.5V to the ECU whenever airpump is drawing its nominal amps!

So, technically, whenever the airpump is running, it runs through that box (2 really thick wires). Then the second plug (3 wires, +5V, signal ground, signal (+2.5V when pump runs)) is the tettle-tale to the ECU. It's just a matter of making a 12 to 2.5V circuit, plugging it into the big plug (+12V) at the pump, and tapping the 2.5V output into the 3-wire plug!

I tried it when I had Emanage, but I screwed up the little 12 to 2.5V circuit by using JBWeld to hold the electronic components together. Apparently, JBWeld has metal in it, and it wasn't outputting 2.5V, so I still had a CEL.

Anyone wanna try it? I'll help with logistics (wire colors, etc.). gotta take out the fender liner, though!.

There is a company making an air pump delete resistor already, check out this link

We'll see if it will pass the flow monitor.

This is a really old thread. Since then an actual delete kit has been made available. You can find details on it here.

Someone else will have to answer your question about the CEL affecting performance. I would say with moderately high confidence that it would not directly affect performance. However, be aware that the CEL's purpose is alert you when something DOES go wrong. So between now and then you will have no indicators (aside from your own intuition/awareness).
