Default BUZZZZ

i have a buzzing sound that only occurs with engine decel....only from about 3300 rpm down to about 2500 rpm. it usually only occurs when the engine is hot and i've been driving for 30 plus minutes. once i depress the clutch pedal or hit the throttle the buzzing sound goes away.

it almost sounds like it's coming from the dash/engine compartment on the driver's side.

the S performs awesome otherwise. just hoping i don't have that weird recalled clutch buzz.

i'm guessing it's just a loose heatshield.

TIA!

It's the clutch disc. 00-01 cars with the original clutch will make this noise. There was a TSB 01-054 that covered replacing the clutch. Your 01 is out of warranty by time, so it's not covered.

The clutch functions normally, it just buzzes.

doesn't the clutch TSB-54 buzz only occur when the clutch is depressed?

No. Listen to Slow. He knows what he's talking about.

so, should i worry about it?
will it get worse/more annoying?
is it something i just have to live with until i need to replace the clutch?...or will it still be there with a new clutch?

the weird thing is it only does it every so often....maybe 20% of the time.

thanks again.

If you want to worry about a noise, then I guess that's your choice. It's NOT a mechanical problem.
Since we don't know how bad it is now, it's really hard to say if it will get any worse. As for more annoying, again, that's up to you. I've lived with a buzzing clutch for over 5 years. Doesn't bother me in the least. Yours is not unique. This has been reported ever since the car was introduced. Even newer models can still exhibit some sort of clutch buzz. It's just the clutch springs vibrating in response to what the tranny is doing.
It won't go away until the clutch disc is changed and even then, some owners have reported the buzz coming back after only a few weeks. It's just a characteristic of certain model years of S2000s.
How often it does it and how severe it does it depends on all kinds of factors at the time - tranny temp, ambient temp, the conditions under which you decelerated and the rpm range you went through, which gear you're in and how you drive the car.
