Do not let a service place try to replace your entire clutch assembly, like a certain place tried with me.
The biggest expense in a clutch job is the labor. IMO it would be foolish to pass up the opportunity to replace the whole deal. DO replace all components.

It a noise, thats it.

If you want the noise reduced, you'll need a new clutch disc installed.
The Clutch otherwise functions fine, unless it's been slipped to hell and back and no longer has any friction material left on the disc.

Only the 00-01 cars had this issue, all of which are out of the 3 year/36k warranty. If Honda does cover anything under warranty, I'd be as polite as possible and thank them repeatedly.
I would be grateful if they decided to fix it but the fact still remains that Honda knows this problem exists and even when still under warranty, will not fix the problem.

I understand the argument of Honda not wanting to fix the noise if the vehicle is past its warranty. On the other hand, they offer an extended warranty which we all know they RAVE about at the dealership when u are buying the car. When the truth seems to be that when a problem arises (on a car that is past the original warranty) everyone points their finger at the customer who must be a fulltime street racer. (which I am not)

If their view is that the loud buzzing noise is normal for this model vehicle.. then I am interested to know why they decided to fix, an apparently non existant, problem in 2002. Then again, why would anyone consider an obnoxious noise upon deceleration anything but normal.

I'm not hating on the car one bit.. I love every second I have had it. By the way, I live in Culver City CA for the individual who asked above. Anyone get a hold of that TSB report??

I agree with you on this one, but why replace all the components when they are fine. The rep at Honda HQ, even recommended that if your clutch is functioning fine (besides the buzz), that I should not spend $700 in parts. He told me to only have the clutch disc replaced.

There are several threads on this issue. If the search function is working you can find them pretty easily.

I think the best solution is the clutch upgrade package that hardtopguy.com offers. It's more costly but I haven't read one negative word about the setup.

It's the second to the last item on this page http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/cust...ome.php?cat=58

I was going to take mine to the dealer for this problem. But if they're going to say its normal, then I don't want to waste my time. Can't they just replace it with 02 or 03 parts??

they could replace the parts but from what i have been told.. the chances of you getting the bill at the end are extremely high.

this is sometimes fixed under their "goodwill" policy.

whether you get this depends on the dealership and your service history. if you bought the car new and did every service with honda, they would be more inclined to do it. Buy a used 00 and show up for the first time asking for this, and you will likely get a no.
