Buzz/rattling When Engine Braking
I searched for this already and all that it came up with was TSB recalls for my car.. its a 2001. What causes this problem? i'm a pretty good mechanic so i just need to know what causes the rattling and buzzing noise when I engine brake. Thanks.

it's the "clutch buzz"
basically, the clutch isn't absorbing the powertrain vibration as well as it should. Honda has updated the disc, but even then it doesn't really fix it.
Sometimes Honda does TSBs off warranty for free, but I really DOUBT they will do a clutch on a 01 for the buzz. since it doesn't really affect the car they probably won't fix it. go to your dealer and ask...that's the only way.

Steve nailed it. The "clutch buzz" is rarely covered by Honda, as the clutch is a wear item and they don't consider it a problem. I was denied as well.
It is annoying, but that is all. When my clutch finally goes, I'll go with an ACT setup and lightened flywheel. Better grad, and hopefully no buzzing.
The other way around it is to get an aftermarket exhaust. That way you just mask the buzzing with an exhaust roar!!!

I bought my 01 in May with 12,300 miles from a honda dealer. It was Honda Certified and has the Honda Certified warranty. I have the clutch buzz issue. From your experiences will they cover it?
Thanks,

Sucks, I know.
I have yet to see what the HondaCare Extended Warranty is good for. At least I didn't pay for it! They threw it in as the closer at the end of our negotiations for purchase.
From my almost 20 years of car experience, extended warranties have proven totally useless.

The dealership said, 'We do not cover parts that wear down, aka clutch'... but it can't hurt to try.

My rep at Wessiloh said that Honda got kinda burned on that TSB. They replaced a ton of clutches, as per the TSB, and a ton more, goodwill, only to have the rattle/buzz return after a few thousand miles. If I were a pessimist, I might think there was an internal memo that stated " no more clutch replacement for buzz/rattle..."
