It happens due to the thermal expansion of oil, but I find that its less than half an "X" for me, so I always keep it filled 1X lower than full when cold. Works well for me and its better than checking it while its hot and because the oil hasnt drained back to the crankcase, over filling it.

lol you ok there? It's common sense and also stated for how you should check the oil level..

I've noticed a pretty big difference between cold and warm when checking my oil. 2-3 X marks I think.
