Default Burning too much oil?

Hello Everyone

My s2k is a 2003 with NO engine/performance modifications. I actually logged the miles after my last oil change, and I found I had to add about 1 quart and a half of oil after about 1000 miles.

I usually Vtec once or twice a day, and I drive normal the rest of the time. I shift at around 4k RPM for normal driving. When the engine is cold I usually shift at 3k RPM. I am using Mobil 1 synthetic.

I guess the good news is I did buy the 6 year warranty with the s2k, so hopefully I

I had bad oil burnage but I noticed that it did not occur unless i was whippin around a hard right hander adding some decent lateral G-force and literally pushing oil out of the PCV and into the intake. I always let the car warm to 3 bars despite it being said that 1 minute of warm up time is plenty. I was burning about 1 quart every 1k miles. I did notice upon making sure to drive easier in turns. That oil consumption slowed if not stopped. Mind you i Vtec it all day long. Perhaps you are not driving hard enough

im in the 1qt per 1000 mi club too. honda told me they dont do anything about it until your burning 1qt per 900mi
i read that adding even a little fresh oil to your car extends the life of the oil a lot? who knows?

I heard that is a great product.

But what I am wondering is, what causes this that they could not take care of at the factory?

Switch oil brands and weights. I don't get why 80% of the people here run M1. It gets merely OK UOA results, it's expensive, and there's zero evidence that it's any better than a comparable brand synthetic (havoline, valvoline, pennzoil, etc.). Hell, try running 10w30 dino and see what the results are, you could also try running a 5w40 and see if that helps.

I'll also second trying out the krank vents. While my '03 doesn't burn any oil (at least not that I can notice) I've read from several guys on this forums that krank vents work well on a car with oil consumption problems. And for the price they're worth a shot.

us ls1 owners use 1-2qts per 3k miles with 30 weight M1. Most of us switch to 0-30 German Castrol. It's a lot thicker.

no wonder i was burning up all that oil. Most of the turns when i go home from the belt are right right turns and i take it really fast. I got the krank vents now, hopefully it works out my oil problem. Had it for 100 miles and no oil burnt yet, but we'll see shortly.

Also using M1 for oil, my 1jz supra burned oil when i used syntheic's but no where close to this much. It burned probably 1/5 quart every 1k miles. I'll probably give amsoil a try.

If a professional compression/leakdown test check out satisfactory you are probably fine. That's the only true way to find out if there is a real issue short of taking the engine apart.

If that checks out ok and it still bothers you, vents/chang oil type.
