Default Burning oil in VTEC

I've seen a bunch of threads out there about this but not many solutions. My car burns oil when I vtec. I can see it (especially at night) in my rear view mirror. Looks like jet exhaust. ;-)

I had a compression test before I bought the car in Jan and the #s were supposedly good. I don't seem to burn any oil if I stay below 6k rpm. But surely, there must be something I can do/check/fix to stop my car from blowing smoke out its tailpipes.

Thanks,

D

PS. I'm using Mobil 1 10w30.

get a catch can!

I caught quite a bit of oil in 400 miles of driving, mostly when I drove spiritedly. Check your PCV valve also to make sure its functioning properly

A catch can is great for the track when turning hard. Seeing a steady plume of smoke out the back though is a whole different story when driving in a straight line or under moderate turning.

Run a compression and leak down test. That will tell you the whole story

Hmmm, mine does the same thing (02 with 89k) I am also curious, though, I thought that was normal for these cars... Mine will do it the most after I go a couple days of not going into VTEC. Wonder if its carbon blowing off at first?

i put about a quart of oil in my ap1 every week. Insane. I mean i have high miles to, but to be honest, i dont have any leaks and my engine is running strong so i cant complain, plus ill never need to change my oil becasue im constantly adding new oil to it
the filter, i change though lol

I am considering doing a compression test soon though, i just wanna make sure everything is 100%, ive never done one, so it cant hurt to do it.

try switching away form mobil 1. ap1s love to consume it. i used a syntehtic but swithced to a conventinal. castrol gtx 10w-30 and it didnt burn as much but still burns a good amount. my next step is to rebuild the head and get a low mile shortblock or something. my compression test was good too. 230 235 235 235.

so even if your compression test is phenominal you can still consume lots of oil?
