ap1's are known to burn a lot with mobil 1, try castrol or amsoil...and make sure to check oil level every other fillup at the gas station. and if oil consumption doesn't improve, try krank vents.

You really think the brand of oil you use makes "it pull harder in vtec"? Come on, dude.

sorry I heard mobile1 helps and that is all I have been using for over 3 years. I haven't use any other brand so I don't how much of a different but I use about one qt between oil changes. just to give you guys an idea.

edit: I say I average about 1 vtec every 2 days, so I guess it is burning quite a bit then huh?

The type of oil somebody uses can make a difference. But it's hard to quantify, especially when I don't know how many miles between your oil changes. I don't know of anybody that has actually done a controlled analysis, so all the info out there is anecdotal.

Seems that people who use real expensive oil, such as Redline or Amsoil, have a tendency to say it doesn't burn as much, but then again, the oil costs way more.

I've always used Mobile 1. It's hard to say how much I burn but its probably about 2 quarts every 1000mi. But I'm in VTEC everyday, multiple times a day. At the track, with about 50-100 miles of driving, I can burn a quart.

I'm at the high end for this car, but it's "normal". My compression and leakdown tests are fine.

The type of oil you use won't make a difference in HP, except that I've heard claims that synthetic can add about 0.25-0.5% due to decreased friction vs conventional oil.

I can't believe anyone would suggest Mobil 1 (not Mobile 1!) as a remedy for an engine that burns oil. In fact, this is likely to make it worse as this stuff is on the thin side in most grades. Want to reduce oil burning? Switch to one of the many "high mileage" oils available. They are formulated a bit thicker and have a stouter additive package.

"I've heard claims that synthetic can add about 0.25-0.5% due to decreased friction vs conventional oil."

This is kinda/sorta a myth. Mobil 1 (common synthetic) tends to be on the thin side in every grade and may offer some tiny gains. But, take two oils with similar AW/EP additive packages (one conventional, one synthetic) with a cSt of 9.0 and they will have the same internal friction or hydrodynamic drag which reduces power and economy.

Synthetic base oils (and there are various types) flow better at low temps and survive better at high temps. That's about it. They are not magic.

"I burn ... probably about 2 quarts every 1000 mi."

Eeek! I'd switch to something else ... a high mileage formula, perhaps.
