Default Burning Edge?!?

I've got a 2002 with 112k on the clock. Hit V-tec often enough, was on mobile 1 10-w30 and consuming about a qrt every 1k. I switched to edge 10w30 to see if it would reduce consumption and now its doubled! For the last 2k miles ive dumped 3 qrts in. I also noticed some black spray marks on my garage floor. When Im pushing it and look in my mirror I see puff of smoke, but i think thats always happend from 2-3 in vtec, and the back of my car is always a sooty mess. Anyone got any ideas?

You are burning oil...sounds like A LOT of it. Get a compression test and report back.

I seem to burn oil at a similar rate, I bought the car at 58k and at 60k I changed my oil and TCT. A little over 3000 miles and almost 3 quarts later my TCT has gone bad again. Does Mobil1 really eat TCT's? And what causes the oil burning?

Oil doesn't eat metal, so no, your oil wont break your TCT. Oil starvation however, will cause the damage.

It is normal for the F20C to burn some oil but not as much as you are describing. Compression test sounds like a good idea to start. This will give you an idea about how healthy your piston rings and head gasket is.

If you see oil spots in your garage right were the engine is then you are obviously leaking.

Oil burning through the exhaust in form of visible black smoke means your piston rings are not sealing properly, causing oil to reach the combustion chamber.

Valve stem seals could also cause excessive oil consumption and smoking on start-up and under heavy load. Could also explain the oil spatter in the garage.

I'm not getting any smoke on startup or idle, and spatter on floor hasn't grown. O thinly spatter maybe from revving on an occasion. I've got Wed off so I'm gonna try and get test done.

carbon buildup? do you have a test pipe perhaps?

Ap1's will emit some black smoke when engaging vtec

Did a compression test, 8 strokes every test.

235/240/235/240

Is this good? If so what else might he causing this?
