Dun't jump the gun and replace the clutch without confirmation that it is indeed actually the clutch disk and pressure plate.

If you are having brake caliper problems, then the smell is probably coming from the brake pads.

If your clutch isn't slipping, it would be a waste of time, resources and money to replace it. I'm assuming that you have the pedal ALL the way to the floor when you pull the transmission out of gear

If there was a problem with the pressure plate that was causing your clutch to NOT dis-engage, you would have problem's shifting into all the gears. You did not mention that you be having a problem going into gear, or upshifting.

Are you sure that you are fully pushing the clutch pedal all the way in when you go to select neutral, or are you just yanking your transmission out of gear?

How much experience do you have with bleeding clutch's? This kind of problem is usually caused by air in the system, and it would cause difficulty going INTO gear rather than out of.

I'm definately pushing the pedal all the way to the floor. I didn't have this problem up until a couple of months ago. Also, I forgot to mention that it takes a lot more effort to push the pedal. It feels like the 6 puck racing clutch that I had on my Accord.

You're also right, I'm not having a problem going into gear, and my clutch is not slipping. Pulling out of gear is when it gets hard. I just leave the pedal down a couple of seconds before pulling it out, and it's good to go.

I used to bleed my Accord with H22 swap all the time. I also followed the instructions under DIY. Not sure what else to do.

Your symptoms sound like rusted splines on the clutch. However, the only way to check is to pull the transmission. So I'm not sure that's going to help you.

That's what I figured. If I do that, then I might as well change out my clutch for good measure. Especially since I've already got 70k miles on it.

My friend has his own shop with lift, and tools. I'd like to do it myself, but by looking at the DIY, it looks like a PITA.

I wish we had a "Billman school of knowledge" that potential S2000 mechanics could graduate from and be available in every region on S2ki. That way if we needed to drop our cars off at a trusted, reliable source we could do it. Sadly, I don't think this school exists.

I wish this was possible, but unfortunately I live on the opposite coast as Billman. I'm in L.A.
