Default Burn smell clutch / brakes

I had this problem about a year or so, and just came back today. This morning, while driving to work, my car smelled like the clutch or brakes were burning. Also, when I come to a stop there's a hard knock, which seems to be coming from the right rear wheel area.

I know that this is not the axle nut, because I've previously checked to make sure it was torqued properly. I inspected my rear brakes a couple of months ago, and they were fine. I also changed my transmission, and differential fluids a couple of months ago so those are fine (no leaks). My clutch is at 77,000 miles so I plan on replacing that next week.

What could be causing this really hard knock in the rear when I come to a complete stop?

Sounds like a rear caliper sticking. Feel your rear wheels and see if one or both them are hot after you drive the car to work.

How can I fix that problem? Would I have to replace the caliper? I'm at work right now, so I'll have to check the wheels after I drive home.

At the very least you'd have to buy a caliper rebuild kit for the rear, if your rear calipers are even the problem. Drive it home and check back with us. Rather than continue to speculate I'll just wait for you to give us the verdict.

One of my lower arm nuts was loose. I've had this knocking sound on, and off for at least a year. That damn nut was so loose that i was taking it off with my finger. Not sure what the burnt smell was, though.

Is your clutch slipping?

It's not slipping. It's just hard to pull out into neautral, once it's in gear. I've already tried bleeding the clutch, and changed my tranny fluid.

Hmmm...sounds like the problem I had. the sticking part. I had them replace my master cylinder and the problem went away.

How many miles were on your clutch when you replaced the master cylinder? I just figured it was my spline that needs to be re-greased, and at 70k miles it wouldn't hurt to go ahead & change my clutch.
