Broken Lug Bolt
OK, some idiot with an air wrench at a tire shop that will go nameless over-torqued my rear wheel lugs. Since I swap my tires out with R-compounds when I Auto-X (If you have tried it you must indulge ), I had to strain mightily to remove the bolts, only to rip one bolt clean off .
No problem. Off to the tire store in Mineral Wells, TX and they tried valiantly, but failed to remove the wheel hub. Nice guys, but ignorant. Not dumb, they just didn't know any more than me.
I took it to the dealership, who agreed that the hub would have to be removed and the bolt(s) pressed out/in. No problem, just $190. Then they called and said that the wheel hub had a sealed bearing which would also need to be replaced. Now its $330 plus bolts (~$10 each).
Question: I'm I being robbed or is this just another cautionary tale about not letting idiots anywhere near your car? Your responses are appreciated.
Regards,
Al

The wheel bearing hub has to be pressed out and should be replaced. The wheel bearing hub list for $89.00 http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...gry5=REAR+BRAKE
and it takes some tools that most people don't have, axle puller, a press, 240lbs (??) torque wrench, and I believe a few others. I think for a dealer it is billed as a 2-3 hour job, took me 4 hours each wheel.

Yeah, it's not a trivial job. Every time you pull the hub apart, the bearing's supposed to be replaced. They should have told you that up front though. If they're going to pull the hub anyway, I'd have all the studs replaced at once. More than likely they've all been damaged by, the idiot with the impact wrench. The cost of the studs is trivial compared to the cost of the rest of the job.
I've done it here at my house but, my wife gave me a 20 ton press as a christmas present so, I have the tools I need.
