Default broken link chain replacement? why not

not sure if theres any mrecedes owners here but when I bought a Mercedes chain to fix the balance shaft issue on e350 it came unlinked
instead of removing the timing cover which is a pain in the ass and requires a motor pull they break the old chain link and feed the new chain in by rotating the crank and one guy holding the chain.
then connect it again on top at the cam gear and install tensioner

why cant this be done on s2k ?
to install the link I just bought a 30 dollar chain link tool and it was done

search youtube fro this video.
MERCEDES M272 and M273: TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT part 1
links or videos dont work for some reason
