Default Broken bolt head in my daily drive! Help please guys!

Hello, i removed my valve cover today to check my retainers, the good news is everything looks bang on! The bad news is i snapped a bolt head off when tightening up the valve cover!

How do I fix this and what do i need? If i drill out the bolt could the metal shavings go down the bolt hole into the engine?!

get a bolt extractor kit from a local parts store, metal shavings won't go down the engine, just protect the area around the bolt with some cloths if you do it with the cover removed, or with the cover in place, it's your choice.

Thank you very much, my local halfords store sells this... http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165572

Would that be OK? Also would i need to order the bolt from honda or would halfords stock something thatbcould fit?

Thanks again, i really need to fix this for work tomorrow =(

That will work, you will need a drill bit to drill the bolt before using the extractors, so read the back of the package to find out what drill bits you will need.

You can likely find a replacement bolt that will work from a local supplier, as long as it has the proper thread and pitch and length of bolt it will be fine.

Pull the valve cover off and see if any of the threads are sticking up. You can probably turn them with your fingers of pliers now that the load is off of it.

No need to buy the tools listed. I've broken off the same bolt as well.

All you have to do is remove the part with the broken bolt in it and replace it with a new one.

Just purchase this part shown below and the bolt to go in it. It's a simple fix. Remove valve cover.. unscrew #19 shown below... install new #19. Use new bolt to tighten. It'll cost you under $10...

PM me if you have any questions.

Hi Guys, I've managed to not only round the hex head of the cam tower bolt,
I also stripped its threads in the head.
So I can not get this bolt to back out and it won't tighten at all.
I really have to go to work tomorrow!

What do I do now?

HELP!

If you're unaware of your powers... please use a torque wrench.
And please use the proper metric tools.
FYI: cam tower bolt torque 22Nm. - and oil the threads.
Valve cover bolt torque 12Nm.

You can get a automotive grade socket head cap screw to replace it for <20 cents at a hardware or automotive supply. Replace all four while you're at it. You can even get some stainless "bling" for <$2.

What pisses me off the most SpitfireS is that I sold my snap-on torque wrench in january this year just before i bought the s2000! As soon as I can buy another I will do.

Thanks for the help and your time guys the car is now fixed and fitted with 5 new stainless hex bolts. Panic over hahaha
