broke a wheel stud

I always torque them too... Guns in the wrong hands are just too damaging without torque sticks.
Just for fun, old vid below. Still can't figure out how all 4 wheels hit the ejector seat simultaniously...

Get a cheapy from Walmart (20-30 bucks) or a Beam torque from Sears. Putting your "weight into it" - not a good idea. You probably weight at the minimum 150-160. The lug wrench itself is a little more than a foot long. Assuming you're not using a breaker bar OR jerking it with your weight, you're putting 160 ft-lbs of torque - already 2X more than what is spec'd (80 ft-lbs).

If you were on three KNOWN good studs, I'd say go ahead. But you're on 3 (probably 18 if you've torqued them all the same number of times) studs that are most likely ALSO compromised and on the verge of breaking. I woudn't drive it. The possibility of a wheel departing the vehicle is very very REAL.
Torque lug nuts to 80 lb-ft. More is not "better"!

I strongly agree on this. you can indeed have the wheel break off the car. I've had a guy break 5 studs on the way to my house due to overtorquing. He lost a rear wheel and destroyed the quarter panel.

Short studs ? Are you running spacers on that wheel ?, if so that would explain the shorter studs. Short studs will break on you depending on the size of the spacers, and improper torque makes it even worse. 80 ft lbs is the spec, that isn't very tight. Torque wrench is worth it's weight in gold.

Dude, those wheels don't fit.
If you are breaking studs, something is wrong. Does the wheel even fit up against the hub?
What car are the wheels you are tryin to put on off of?
DON'T DRIVE IT WITH THE NON OEM WHEELS AND 3 BROKEN STUDS, since you don't even know for sure if they fit.
