Can I assume that it's not currently misfiring due to the CEL being gone and the car at least acting normally?

yea as long as the check engine light doesn't stay ON or flashes, your car will be fine.

See if the CEL was stored. Get your car scanned for piece of mind

I had an issue similar to this, but my cel continued to flash and I lost almost all power and the car started to sound like a boxer with uel headers. I pulled over immediately, had it towed and it turned out to be a bad coil pack and toasted plugs, misfired on two cylinders.

I had no engine codes, but I did have 2 ABS wheel speed sensor codes and a battery code. I'm going to assuming those don't have to do with the blinking CEL. I'm going to go ahead and just drive the car and keep a careful eye on it for the time being, hopefully this was a strange one-off occurance.

Yay new problems. Cylinder 2 misfire now with a steady CEL. Also getting the VSA and "!" on and then off when the car is turned off and then randomly back on. Car still feels fine, noticed what might have been a misfire at idle when sitting at a light but for the most part the car feels as it should. I didn't listen last week and never retorqued the plugs since there was no engine code when I had all the codes pulled so I'm going to go do that now along with swapping the 1 and 2 coils.

I have absolutely nothing to back this up, but could the car only be misfiring every now and then and only when the car misfires the VSA and "!" light come on?

pull the plugs and check the coils, you can swap the coils from one cyl to another to see if its a bad coil pack.

I was getting a flashing CEL at about 6500 rpms for like a day. Then somehow it worked itself out and hasnt came on since. I was assuming bad gas or something, even did a comp test and inspected spark plugs just in case and looked pretty good.

Ill have to wait until tomorrow to really know anything, I can swap the coils but it'll still throw a CEL, only on a different cyl so ill have to wait until tomorrow to get a scanner, tired of driving over to autozone.

I'm crossing my fingers that a bad coil is all that it is.

Thats what it looks like if the info you provided is true....faulty/old coil pack
