I had a BMW and it had a recommended 1000 mile brake in...when i got the car i already had mods for it and there was no way i was waiting 1000 miles to push it....so i drove like it should be and never had a problem....it's a myth

Having built a "few" race motors, I can tell you what works there. First spin the oil pump over and pre-oil the motor. Surprisingly if you have an external pump, like on a dry sump race motor you can use one of the speed handle cranks that you get in some socket sets and crank 20 psi with your hand.
With the plugs out and crank the motor over a handfull of revolutions, like maybe spin it for two seconds or so to allow oil to get where it didn't get before.
Put the plugs in, start it up and IMMEDIATLEY go to 2000+ RPM. This is far more important in a pushrod, flat tappet, motor than an overhead cam, roller rocker, motor, as its sole purpose is to make sure the cam has enough oil during its break in.
This is usually done on an engine dyno, and the motrors run for about half an hour. Then they are shut down, inspected for any obvious loose thingies and immediatley you start doing "pulls" to tune them. "Pulls" means typically full thottle with max load all the way to redline then shut down maybe a dozen times.
Then you put it into the car and race it, sometimes for 24 hours.
A properly built motor doesn't "wear in" it wears out. I believe factory "break in" has more to do adusting the driver to the new environment than the car.

i v-tec'd home the day i picked up my '00.....
that was 4 years and 85K ago.....no issues.
hell, people that have driven my car find that it's very fast for it's age and mileage....some even claim that it is one of the faster stock S2000's out where i live....

I hit vtec with 11 miles on my 02. I have added less than a quart of oil in 6000 miles over 2 years. I drive it for what I bought it for. I put synthetic in at 2500 miles with no worries. I can pull away from other S2000's

I am one of the ones who drove my car for real when it had 50 miles on it i revved it to 9 grand and chirped second and now have almost 32K miles and have had one problem , a top latch broke, so all I can say is I think it is a myth. The dealer I bought it from is a member here also (Checkered Flag , Matt).
