Default Braking Issues

So my car kind of feels unstable when I brake. Not really sure how to describe it, but basically when I am going 80 or so on the highway the car feels a bit light when I brake. Kind of unstable. I know it is not the tires, and I know it is the not break fluid. Could that feeling simply be a need for new break pads? Or does it sound more serious. Also, how much should I pay for new brake pads for the front two wheels if that is the case?

When you say it feels unstable, does it feel like it is pulling to one side when you brake? How hard are you braking from 80mph when you are testing it? I don't think your brake pads are the problem, and you can easily check how much pad you have left by shining a flashlight on the brake pads through the wheel spokes. You may have a brake caliper that is sticking and causing one or both of the rotors to overheat resulting in uneven/unstable braking. Immediately after driving, is the rotor one on side noticeably hotter than the other? More information is needed to troubleshoot this problem.
