Default Brakes - Difference between Porterfield R4s and OEM pads???

I was just looking at the Porterfield R4s pads that were shipped to me and the pad itself is a little bigger than the OEM pads - a good thing I would guess. The thing that struck me; however, is that the OEM pads have a little metal clip screwed on to them while the Porterfields do not. The clip can be found on one of the two pads on each of the four brake assemblies (i.e., on both the fronts and the backs, but only on one of the pads).

QUESTIONS: 1) What does this clip do? 2) Is there a problem installing the Porterfields without the clip?

Thanks.

Elton

The clip is there to make a really loud noise when you wear your oem pads down to about 15~20% left. You don't need it on the porterfields, but make sure to eyeball your pads every so often to be sure you're not running them down to nothing.
