Pushing the caliper pistons back isn't going to damage the float in the master cylinder. While it sucks, it's not the shops fault.
If you don't want the light on and don't want to spend any $, unplug the connector to the reservoir.

Either way, drawing fluid through the cylinder when bleeding or topping the system off, Nothing a tech or shop could have done different to prevent this from happening.
Man up and buy a master cylinder or unplug your shit.

If I'm a shop, and a customer's car is not throwing a code before it rolls in, but it is afterward, and it's doing so in a system I worked on, then my job is to make it right. It's the shop that needs to "man up".
That's part of why it costs $100/hour to have the shop work on stuff.

So a shop should warranty a 9 year old part that they didn't break? Nah.
If they don't my dollars, then I hope they enjoy the current economic prosperity without me.

Or you just man up and buy a master cylinder or unplug the switch.
Not that the fluid level switch has ever gone bad on many previous cars.
You want the shop to buy a part, and the fix the car at no charge, and loose any profit they had in the 1st place to keep him happy?
Eff it. Maybe Obama will buy him a master cylinder.

it happened to mine a few months back. The floating thing doesn't float anymore. So i unpluged it. I just bought a used master cyl from the Market Place for $42 shipped. Someone was parting out the car. The new one is about $170. I'm not sure how to replace it because i've heard somewhere that when bleeding the brake fluid, the reservoir has to be filled so that it won't let air in the brake lines.
