Does this screw serve any useful purpose or can it be left off?

if it helps any, 90% of cars here on aftermarket taiwanese wheels (ie wheels with 8 lug holes for 100pcd and 114.3 pcd) require the screws to be off to fit properly.

They're off on my car, and all my friends, and we track all the time without issue.

It does serve a useful purpose, of holding the rotor in place while the wheel is not installed. Once the wheel is installed, it has no value.

I generally leave them out, but when doing brake work I sometimes install them so that the rotor isn't flopping around.

Thanks all for the great advice.

Mike G., a special thanks as I used your "how to" on brake line replacement a few years back. Went off without a hitch.
