remove the hose and check the valve is functional.

I'll look into that. What should I be looking for to see if the valve is indeed functional?

I'll add, whatever I'm feeling seems to be less apparent if I have the steering wheel perfectly straight.

Its a check valve, so it should only operate one way. Do, a brake booster test

Likely if 2# of functional test fails, with the knowledge of feeling a pulsating at stopped. You will likely remove the hose to find the check valve not functioning correctly. If it was the brake booster itself, it would be different symptoms.

The pulsating is likely the vacuum only partially being released dude to a stuck/faulty check valve working at partial capacity. So every time you stop and it tries to purge the vacuum, the pressure is coming out in pulses, and/or the pulsating you feel is the pedal rising under your foot from the booster vacuum when it should be releasing(bad booster)

Pay attention to the direction your pedal travels when you do these tests.

Gotcha. Aside from being a nuisance, do you know of any safety concerns I should be worried about? Such as the brakes failing to stop the car? I ask because I'm not sure when I'll have time to fully dive into this, but would still like to drive the car.
