Bounce off Rev Limiter!!
Last night taking off from the stop light, i hit my rev limiter in second gear. The strange thing is no warning blanking lights on the dash. At what RPM are the rev limiter set at??? I'm kind of worry, it seems like it went way past 9000rpm.... hope i didn't damange my engine!

If you did it while accelerating, no harm done. That's why it's there. In fact, track junkies hit their limiters very regularly. Just don't do it on a missed down-shift.

I think maybe you shifted perfectly...... If it didnt feel like you hit a brick wall then I dont think you actually hit the limiter, I believe it will blink a couple times before you actually hit the limiter....

The dash display is not fast enough to keep up with the rising rpm in first and sometimes second. You have to be quick with the shifter to avoid the limiter if you chose to rev to the redline. Anticipation is required in the lower gears while revs climb slow enough in third and higher than you can count on a flashing tach.. if you want to take your eyes off the road. I use an audible signal at 8400 and the revs still beat it in first.

I hit the governor once and that prompt me to get this mod. I've never hit it since. Perfect shifts at redline without having to take my eyes off the road & surroundings. Much safer spirited driving.

There have been different threads and posts regarding when the rev limiter activates (fuel cutoff). Some say 8,900, while others say 9,000. All I know is that when I rev my engine, according to my tach, to 9,000 rpm, the bars to the right of 9k flash red on and off (I will keep my foot down for 2 to 3 tenths of a second). The bars will flash for about 1/2 of a second before the rev limiter kicks in. I don't do this all the time, but it is kind of cool to watch the bars flash. If your good, you should be able to max out the engine (red bars flashing), up through the gears without bouncing off the rev limiter.
Since I have owned my S, I think I have banged the rev limiter twice. That is how I know how long to keep my foot down after the bars start to flash red. Seriously, even if you reved to 9,200-9,300, I don't think you would hurt this engine. A mechanical over rev (due to incorrect gear selection) is a different story.

racer is correct.... that is the point of the limiter, to prevent you from going to any higher rpms. But if you throw the car in say second while doing 80, thats a different story, that is a mechanical over-rev which cannot be avoided, only by being careful through the gears.
