Can you post pictures of the block, when you get around to it? I want to see the bores.

Sure can. Its probably going to be about a week though since im pretty busy with other things right now. Once I get the old block pulled and torn down, I will take pictures for you guys. I'll also take pictures of my new engine after I walk my doggos.

The biggest issue with used engines are burned valves, the wrecker isn't going to let you just pop off the valve cover and check for tight valves. They'll do a leakdown and compression test at best, and while helpful diagnostic tools, aren't going to tell you the actual state of the engine. Valves don't burn right away, it takes a while of running the engine with too tight a clearance for it to happen. Not everyone is going to do a valve inspection/adjustment every 40-60k miles, particularly when the service manual says to do it in 100k miles.

I bought the engine off of a known S2000 and NSX Specialist that lives nearby. He used to work at a local Honda dealer for 15 years. He was willing to let me take the valve cover off but I declined. The VIN on the engine matches up with a car that wrecked in 2021 with 32k miles. Only damage to the engine was a cooling fin was bent on the oil pan. I need to swap some parts over like pulleys, intake, and other little things.

I'm pretty confident that the engine is in good shape. Compression was ~110 all around +/- 2. Worst case, I get it running and take it back to him and have him look at it. I'll definitely keep a close eye on the engine since I can't guarantee it's perfect.

I know im taking a risk, but I feel better about doing this instead of rebuilding what I have. Hopefully I can recoup some of the cost by selling good engine components off of the other engine, or potentially save it and sell it whole.
