What did the rings look like? Where they coked up/carbon build-up?

The machine shop will need to contact the mfr of the honing machine they use. They will be able to get them the right tooling.

If you do it the way honda says they will be using a handheld drill with a rigid hone. This is not very easy, down right dangerous and the final product really depends on the skill of the machinist.

I changed my oil pan not too long ago due to stripped threads and it seemed like you could see the cylinders from below when the pistons were at TDC. I didn't look very hard so I could be mistaken.

Edit: now that I think about it you're right. I would't be able to see the cylinder at all from down there. The actual piston itself would be in the way.
