It's called heatsoak. It happens when your car sits any longer than a minute or two and gets worse when its hot outside.. It helps even though most people would disagree to just pop the top off of your box. I have a K&N in my OEM box for now so it breathes probably better than a Honda filter would but that's probably your issue.

Although If you really don't like it I would suggest picking up an intake. I'm in the market for a K&N FIPK shortram. It looks to be open but the hood seals it off when its down and it helps decrease the heatsoak that you are experiencing. Or you can go the CAI route and get an AEM V2/ Regular CAI. You just have to cut for them to fit in there which I'm not too keen on doing to my car.

Hope this helps.

hmm, i dont know, we think it could be the valves but i will try out your solution. thanks, i also have a k/n filter in the stock airbox. we were thinking of cutting the plastic piece in between the filter and the opening for better airflow.

The valves could cause a slight hesitation in power but if you feel like the car "stumbles" as it would do if you let the clutch out to fast without giving it enough gas.. The heatsoak would have a similar effect in the feel.

The valves are a good/cheaper start and if you don't know when it was done prior to you owning the car it's not a bad idea to do it regardless. However if it still does it after you do the adjutment I'm going to go out on a limb and say its probably the heatsoak. Just my best guess though.

ok, thanks for your input. so for the heatsoak, you think i should just take off the top of the airbox?

For a semi effective short term solution yes. I would just buy an intake though if it bugs you enough..

I found it today to be roughly the same in stop and go traffic. BUT! I did notice on the freeway/Highways my mpg did improve a bit. Probably because the hot air is not circulating in that airbox like when the lid is actually on it.

There are.. I hear the password JDM intake actually makes power but it has an $1100-1200 price tag.

Just do your research, I was reading and was really surprised at how some of the top notch name brand intakes out there that are truly "race" inspired were not putting up numbers. I myself refuse to pay more than $300 for an intake. My car is no show car and I don't care for all the flashy carbon fiber goods. I won't be popping my hood unless its to fix something lol

As a heads-up--most people here agree that taking the stock air box lid/cover off results in MORE heatsoak (albeit a better sound from the engine bay).
