well i just purchased my s2k just under 2 months ago, and i love it. only thing is, seems the 2 front shocks are blown. i dont know how, but the car is low kms and the previous owner was 62 yrs old so i doubt he would be abusing the car.

it is weird that i am getting this clunking noise from the suspension. I did notice this when i bought it, but a mechanic friend told me it was no big deal and that i could fix it later on.

my question is, what kind of shocks should i purchase. Im thinkin just the OEM ones, but if there is a shock out there that is better and cheaper i wouldnt mind that either.

Better and cheaper than OEM? I wouldn't suggest it. If you want to upgrade... Yellow Koni's seem to be the choice with aftermarket springs. I never got around to getting them but before you do anything, you should make sure it's your shocks.

Does your car have excessive travel when you go over bumps and dips on the road/freeway?

Did you have a look at the shock absorber assembly?
If not, maybe you will find those "spring spacers" are still there.
Little rubber blocks to give a higher ride height for transport are wedged in between the coils.
The pervious owner may never have noticed they were not removed.
(not because he was 62 .. just because he didn't notice it)

my first thought was with SpitfireS. check for spacer.

there aren't any general rule which one is better between yellow koni and bilstein pss. it's the preference and purpose of the car determines it. if you want be able to fully adjust for track and driving condition, go with bilstein. if you want some bling part and have stickers to show, go with bilstein. all you want is just driving around town, get koni yellow or stock. you can pick up used stock shock for pretty cheap.

I replaced my old OEM shocks with Koni Yellows and am very happy.

Weird - I've just had my 06 passenger rear shock replaced under warranty as it blew and spat its oil out!

I'm planning on replacing them with decent coilovers.

I'd get a price or set a budget for new OEM ones and then spend that on a decent set of coilovers with springs correctly matched to the valving in the shocks (ie not Koni & another springs)

what do these 'spring spacers' look like? also the car handles fine, just hear the sound of what i thought was blown shocks

hum... If you don't see leaking shocks, I wouldn't just rely on what you hear, it could just be loose mounting bolts. The spring spacers are just chunks of rubber that are wedged between the coils. There should be a picture around here somewhere. Oh, here it is:

As for replacing shocks, make sure you replace all 4 if you go with a different set up like the Koni's.
