all i'm saying is $2,200 is too much to pay.

where is morgan hill?

regardless, you should be able to get this done for less than $1,500 parts and labor.
I got this quote a mechanic who is in San jose

keep shopping around.

it costs about $600 to pull the head and reinstall it.

the mechanic would not be fixing the head, only taking the head off and re-installing it after a head shop fixes the head. the mechanic usually ships the head to a head shop he/she knows - or you can take it to your own. thus, the mechanic should only be charging you $600 or a little more.

the head shop would then charge you to fix the head, which would include labor and parts replacement. depending on how many parts you replace (valves, valve guides, retainers, etc.) this would cost anywhere from $300 to $600, depending on how many parts you replace.

Thus, this would cost you anywhere from $900 to $1,500.

morgan hill is in an area with high labor costs, and so is san jose for the most part. i am sorry to hear about your missed shift damage, it can happen.

sounds like you have plenty of advice so i won't add mine....other than to not let the way you feel influence what you have done and by whom...just get it done right, someplace you know will do the work and give you some type of warranty, stuff happens and then stuff happens after the fix...what you probably want is to have the car back asap and done right the first time, no?

best of luck.....i will bet a honda dealer would see this once and a while and have no experience with any other than menlo in rwc, they have a great tech who does S2000's and knows cars and some pretty good service writers...but you have honda dealers around you too....

i have done my own maintenance since my car was new, the involved stuff i give to a dealer, in the long run i have a warranty for the work performed and piece of mind, and yeah maybe it costs more, but the car needs so little, since new, my car is a 2004, i have paid out zero on repairs, just a few dollars here and there for fluids and filters, some of which i had done at the dealer....great car, it will be fine after it is fixed.

and how many extra thousands of dollars would that cost?

Must be nice to always be able to upgrade whenever you have issues with stock parts, I find myself scrounging for the money just to replace them when they break...

FWIW taking the head off isn't that huge of a task. It's pretty self explanatory. Start with the intake, then the TB, then intake manifold. After that the valve cover, then the head. If you have a friend that's done it before on any car, it shouldn't be a major ordeal.

How can someone own a sportscar and not know how to fix it ?

Common sense a good manual and dig in. This forum is excellent source of info. Ran into a dork who also has a S and he couldn't even change brake pads ,yet he was a "autocrosser". Even my 8 year old can tell you the steps in changing pads. Did some of you grow up without dads or at least friends who know basic skills ?
