I don't think you were supposed to change your oil at 3500.

It has been discussed many times that the factory break-in oil should stay in the car until about 10k miles.

If you followed your oil minder indicator, the period is correctly calculated.

If I were to go by the maint. minder indicator on the dash, I would have had to change the oil at 4023mi (15%). I never reset the maint. minder from the intial oil change.

That being said, I would have never made it to 10,000mi. on the factory fill - that would be suicide in my opinion.

Agree. 5000 perhaps, but 10,000 is way too long for break-in, more frequent changes seem to improve performance during this critical period, at least in all the bikes I've ever owned

I've been running Motul 300V.

The ones I've posted were:

Factory fill
Valvoline 5w30
Valvoline 5w30
Valvoline 5w30
Motul 8100 Eco 5w30.

I do have a 300V sample; I'll post that when I get home from work today. I also have another sample lying around that I need to send in

Check out the viscosity after all that use!

The "current" sample is Motul 300V. The interval included many spirited drives and some HPDE.

I think I can safely say that the maintanance minder will begin alarming at about 5500mi and reach 0% at 6000 miles. This was my car that was driven from Fla to California and back. on the factory fill and I was fully expecting 7500 for some reason. Ninety % of this driving was high speed Interstate so maybe it's a little different with a more normal daily routine.

The minder is not comparable between drivers. My last one gave me 15% after 7,200 and didn't lower after a hdpe.

Mike the shear stability on that Motul looks great!

They DO advertise zero shear....

The amount of anti-wear additive in 300V is amazing.

Keep in mind this is the stuff a lot of race teams throw in their cars... litterally the stuff you can buy off the shelf (albeit, usually a heavier weight; Subaru WRC team uses 20w50 Motul 300V)
