Billman replaced my clutch today and NOTICED....
Brought my car to Billman today to get the clutch done and all I can do is say that everything great said about Billman and his tech skills is on the mark. Anyone who needs to get anything done should see Billman before going anywhere else!!
But..Billman pointed out that the engine in my car is NOT the original motor, but a Honda replacement and he could tell this by looking at the engine number 0102170, the 0 meaning the block and head were factory replacements. He was alerted to look in the first place because all the vacuum hoses and wiring was jammed up and not put back right leading him to suspect the engine had been removed/replaced.
I am the third owner of the car and got the car with 61K, the previous owner got the car with 50K at an auction and the motor was already in the car. I’ve been trying to look for an online DB that will show me where/when my block was made so I can get some idea of when it went in the car. Anyone have any ideas where I can look??
At some point before 50K the engine was replaced..could have been done at 15K, 25K or maybe 40K and that's what frustrating but I figured id see if anyone here knows how I can start tracking the engine number down..

What's frustrating? It was replaced with a new Honda motor which means your engine has less mileage than the odo shows.
If it ain't broke all that the motor not being original should tell you is an interesting fact nothing to worry about

Looking forward to having mine done too. Need to remove the horrible clutch buzz. Did you go with OEM clutch and ACT flywheel. How much did it cost and where did you get it? How long did the work take. I would be driving up from Washington, DC just for this S2000 Guru
