Billman’s P1457 DIY

well, rather than just be a taker and not a giver and in the interest of keeping the thread going since @Billman250 was kind enough to start this in the first place...
I had that nagging P0497 come back...the other code never did but this one did...yesterday from a stop light in the heat of the FL afternoon, I also had some serious
bogging that I used to think was heatsoak...but couple that with the occasional smell of gas and relatively poor gas mileage (200 to 240 to a tank)...
Anyway, re-read this thread and a few others and decided to dig a little deeper...
I checked all 3 solenoids with a little ho made set of wires and a 9v battery...click click click on every one. I ran carb cleaner
through pretty much all of them and blew them out. The one under the car on the more complex set of vaccum and evap lines with
2 connectors definitely held a vacuum as I heard it as I pulled the lines off.
sprayed out with carb cleaner and blew out, some junk actually came out...there was sand and debris surrounding the o-ring as well
here was my makeshift test for click...to see if the solenoids were actuating...all 3 of mine were...engine bay and 2 under the car.
I added a bit of this electrical connector corrosion inhibitor
the first one I tested I got about 28Ohms but since I didn't know what Ohm load I was supposed to be getting on each I moved on.

Update: Drove about 70 miles yesterday and no CEL came back on...
I did notice the smell of gas was strong...not sure why. Maybe there's a
diaphragm on one of the solenoids that I blew out with too much force from
the compressed air.
Who knows, let's see.

Very nice post with useful photos! Can the diaphragm's holder be taken apart?

Well, my tinkering didn't solve the problem...
I got audible clicks on all 3 solenoids...the one from under the that's easiest to get to
sounded more like a little arc at the battery than the solenoid clicking itself. Maybe that's the one?

I'm thinking it's the sensor/piece with the Orange connector that's most forward and center. I got more arc clicking than from other pieces.

From what I have read and compared to the other parts I tested it looks like that's the failure point or my Charcoal canister.
I'm about to buy one on eBay as well just to see if it solves the issue before I throw full price parts at it.
