Big Problem With The Car This Morning!!!!!!
#14
Even if the battery becomes entirely disconnected while the car is running, I believe the car should continue to run uninterrupted (at least temporarily), as long as the alternator is functioning properly.
If the problem is the ECU, I'm not sure that it would cause the lights to cut off.
Interesting and potentially dangerous problem. Be very careful until you get it fixed, and please post when you figure out the problem, and let us know what's up with your S!

Which lights cut out? I doubt the headlights are controlled by the ECU, but all the instrumentation is. Did your radio cut off as well? If the radio shut off, then it isn't related to the ECU.
I suspect it is something at one of the fuse blocks. Have you run any "custom" wiring into any of them for amps or anything?

Possible?
Several years ago our BMW 325IS used to shut down for no apparent reason. Several months and mechanics we found out that it was the result of a loose wire harness at the fuel pump.
It was loose and would temp. disconnect the pump for a few seconds.
No fuel, no power, no engine, etc..
Easy to fix if that's it.
Good luck.

Damn, that's scary!.
There's a small chance a fault code might have been registered, you should have the dealership check the car with a PGM tester before doing anything else. Do not try to reset the ECU or anything till you get it checked.

Another possibility - you may have inadvertently moved the key with your knee during the aggressive manuever. I've seen this happen during autocross events, especially if there's a lot of stuff hanging off the ignition key.
I hope that's it .
BTW, I've spun numerous times and never had the car shut off on me. Remember, in a spin ... both feet in!
