my coworkers all want to look at my car...
the engine....
but it scares me every time i close the hood...
my dealer told me i have to drop the hood from 2 to 3 feet high...
is this true? i've been doing it... cuz it's the only way i can get it closed...
but my heart aches every time i do it...
please advise...

Don't sweat it so much. However, 18-24 inches works fine. Experiment some - use the lowest height that closes reliably...

You (or your dealer) can adjust the position of the hood latch for easier latching.

I played with mine for ten minutes or so until now I can drop it from 6 inches for a perfect latch every time.

I'm 5'11" and drop it from waist height or a little lower - closes perfectly every time. There was another thread a few months ago that talked about adjusting the "snubbers". It sounds like if these are up too high, it takes more force to get them compressed so the latch can engage.

I don't worry about dropping my hood, it closes smooth and cleanly everytime. 18" with a slight push down, works cleanly like a charm.

or you could get a steel hood that you can push on

Over time you can drop it lower and lower. ITS OK!

I was at a local dealer when the S2K first came out. They had sold both on silent auction for over 60K each. Anyway, I asked the salesman if I could look under the hood. I did, and then I told him I didn't want to be responsible for closing it. He sais he'd do it. I told him about having to drop it. He insisted that way is ridiculous and proceeded to do what gilcwong said above, although he was closer to the front. I proceeded to watch him dent the hell out of a beautiful aluminum hood! Awful.

Apparently the guy taking delivery ended up having to wait 6 weeks for them to get a new hood.

Moral of the story......drop it!

i guess it's probably a skill one develops over time...
and the spring gets looser over time?...
yeah... i kind of tried the push method... but started to feel the hood 'give in'...
good thing i didn't push too hard...

heh you guys would shoot me, ive dropped it before but mostly push it, but very carefully with both hands. Mine doesnt take much so it doesnt hurt it to do it like that on MY CAR, others may be different.
