Ok... to start off, I have pulled and installed my fair share of motors in various cars, and on average, it is always easiest to do as a whole.

Im in the middle of a motor swap right now in an AP1 S2K and we pulled the motor out the bottom with the motor pretty much fully assembled.

Your best bet is to install the motor on the k-member and set the mounts. Then attach the tranny and drop the car on to the k-member. That way is by far the easiest way and you will be able to put the header back on just before you install the k-member.

Ive pulled motors like this and been able to remove almost the entire engine and front drivetrain without disconnecting almost any sensors (when you can pull the harness as well)...

It is much easier to stab a tranny when the motor is out of the car, especially on the S2K.

Hope that helps.

too late. I looked at the cross member and all of the suspension bolts, then said eff that because I didn't want to take it out. The engine is already in and I am doing the tranny tonight. Before I put the engine In I test fit the trans to make sure it would line up and slide on ok and it did.

I don't suspect any terrible problems with putting the trans in through the bottom tonight.

One question though: I already have the starter in with one bolt on the motor, will this get in the way when installing the trans? Let me know guys.

I took pictures of the install too so I can prolly post a tutorial thing if needed for future n00bs on S2K swaps, as I see lots of blown F20C's in the future...

Phil.

The bottom starter bolt just attaches to the block and does not interfere with the transmission. The upper starter bolt goes through the block and into the transmission housing. It's a real bitch to get to and you will have to do it by feel from under the car.

sounds good. I think I can get it, I have a pretty good feel for things and don't get easily frustrated.

Also for hooking up the driveshaft. Are the bolts for the driveshaft to tranny connection allen bolts? And do they have little kind of u-shaped brackets on them? I bought my car already apart so it is taking a little guess work.

Thanks for the continuous help and feedback.

Yep. They're 6mm allen heads. Two bolts go through each bracket and then into the driveshaft collar.

ahhhh.......just pick that thing up with one hand, and just hold it in place while putting the bolts in with your other hand.....

I do it all the time!

If any of the driveshaft bolts look like they may be a little round off, I would replace them now. If you mess up a little bit next time you go to take them off, you will have a fun time getting them off. Its much easier to do it now instead of having to cut them off.
