I have read 100s of threads about this over the past year or so.
I have yet to read a great faq covering all the debates. There seems to be a concensus from most people, that Honda MTF works for some people keeps the trans smooth and grind free.
Others have nothing but problems and switch to Neo or GM Snycromesh and it is much better.
I have read tests on tranmission operating temps which seem to show that the S2k trans does not run excessively hot where accelerated wear or degridation to the lubricants are affected.
I have not seen this hypothosis tested or seen lab results from trans fluid (anyone have any?)
I have 3 freinds and myself that all have experienced 2nd gear grinds on Honda MTF trans fluid after 7000 miles of moderately hard driving.
Changing the fluid stopped the rough shifts and grinds, but I have also read the Honda MTF only works for a little while longer before the grinds re-occur. Which usually force the switch to other fluids where they seem to solve the problem.
Without seeing tests, my opinion is that there is some type of "flaw" in these tranmissions, I use the word flaw loosely, that requires the use of more protection/better lubrication.
It's one of the few cars I have heard that changing the trans fluid at frequent intervals seems to actually be needed. 5-10k miles.
If I ever hit 15,000 miles my trans fluid will be going out to a lab, to see just how much protection is left after 6,000 miles.
