Default best method for bleeding slave

Hey everybody. I'm new here and this is my first post. I just changed out my slave on my ap1 & am having a hard time getting all the air out.

This was my first time replacing a slave cylinder so I don't know how long it usually takes to bleed. Just to make sure i'm doing it right: With the new slave mounted (not tightened down yet)
Fill reservoir, depress clutch pedal slowly to the floor, hold in, open bleeder, close bleeder, release pedal, repeat & continue topping off fluid making sure the reservoir does not go dry.

I've gone through 2 & a half 12 oz bottles of fluid so far & i've still got a lot of air in the line & play in the pedal. The pedal does get firm about 3/4 of the way down. Am I going about this the right way and does it normally take this long or am I doing something wrong?

Is there a step-by-step DIY that anyone can point me to? Thanks in advance.

is the car on a level surface?

i found out that if the car is uneven on only two jack stands, you will get air

That's the right process, though perhaps you are doing it wrong. Or maybe you have a leak somewhere.

The other way to do it is to use a pressure bleeder.

The "gravity bleed" that is popular for brakes will NOT work for the clutch.

It wouldn't matter if it is on a level or uneven surface. I found that two people work best. Jack the car up from the driver side, place a jack stand for safety. Now connect a hose or a vacuum bleeder to the nipple of the slave cylinder. Loosen the nipple with a 10 mm wrench, go inside the car and step on the clutch pedal but don't pull it back up yet. Fill the fluid make sure it stay top. Then go underneath the car and tighten the nipple back and then go inside the car and pull the clutch pedal back up. Repeat the step till you get clear fluid, this way you won't get bubbles in the line. Make sure you don't pull up the clutch pedal till you tightening the nipple and always check the fluid level.

Mike Garrison,

The gravity bleed works just fine on the clutch for me.

I experimented with it just to see, and it failed miserably. But maybe I did something you didn't do, or vice versa.

Anyway, I had a pressure bleeder and it worked perfectly once I was able to get it onto the master cyl. That's tricky, though, because it's located so close to the firewall.

Thanks for the input everyone! I have the car jacked up from the front. Hopefully I can get this finished up today. Could someone describe how to use a pressure bleeder? I may try this next.

If you buy one, it will come with instructions.

why would you not tighten down the slave? if there's play in the mounting holes, that could be why your clutch pedal has no resistance until 3/4 of the way down.
