The dealership (2002 S2000) said that I have a bent valve on cyclinder #3 after a leak down test was performed. I bought the car with 30K miles 3.5 years ago and the car now has 47K miles. I baby my car and I don't track it, I also don't drive it often. In those 17K miles I have never over-rev'ed my car to my knowledge. Does anyone know how else would I be able to get a bent valve besides an over-rev? Is it possible that the previous owners (I am the third owner) over-rev slightly and it just started to deterioriate over time and break now?
was the car running poorly, what was the reason that led you to having the car checked out ?. I wouldn't think someone could drive a car for over 3 years with a bent valve, but I guess anything could be possible, perhaps the bend is very slight.
I disagree that a compression test could lead to a bent valve.
I mean did it sound wrong?
did it consumed excessive oil?
A compression test could point put excessive blow by on the piston ring, a bent valve or a worn valve seat.
By the way I'm a 3rd owner too of my s2k and my engine ticks alot... I believe it's time for a valve adjustment (30k and it has a skunk2 stg 2 cams) or a new tct or... some bent valves.
doesn't necessarily have to be a bent valve. if the previous owner(s) did in fact overrev the engine you could have cracked retainers. if this is the case, your engine is a ticking time bomb.
The leak down test show 44% on cyclinder #3 per the dealer. However, my car was idling fine most of the time. There was a few occasion at a stop light where it felt like there is a rough idle but for the most part it was fine and the car feels pretty strong. Mileage has been at around 22mpg which is normal for me. Oil consumption has been normal. So I don't exactly buy off on the dealership assessment since they haven't taken off the head to see if the valves were actually bent. Throughts?
