BENT VALVE / OVER-REV / SURVEY [Long]
Numerous searches of the forums have led me to conclude that there are many individuals that have incurred damage to their S2000 by virtue of what has been described as over-revving due to a missed down shift. Some of the writers swear that they did not miss the shift. Others admit that they did. Some had their cars repaired under warranty or as a one-time courtesy while others were denied warranty service.
I would like to establish a statistical database of this situation and would appreciate any S2000 owners that have been through this situation to respond to the following questions. Your response should be in the form of a Private Message (pm) and not on the forum itself. The reason for this is to preserve the satus quo for those dealerships that are already servicing these alleged mis-shifts on warranty. I don't want to get them in trouble with AHM.
Your responses will be kept confidential. Once I get enough data to see if there is any significant trends, I will publish the statistics. I ran this idea past the Under the Hood moderator and received the blessing to proceed, now I just need data. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
PLEASE APPEND YOUR REPSONSE ON THE LINE AFTER THE QUESTION:
1. What year is the car
2. What was the mileage when the "event" happened
3. Did the car continue to operate after the "event"
4. If yes, was the performance different and in what way
5. Did the "check engine" light come on immediately
6. If no, when did the "check engine" light come on
7. Did you miss a downshift and over-rev the engine
8. If no, what was the highest rpm you recall achieving
9. How did you get the car to the dealership
10. Did the dealership produce any OBD-II codes for event
11. What were the codes
12. Did they give you the codes in writing
13. Did they explain the meaning of the codes
14. Did the dealership suggest any other possible cause
14. Describe the service procedure rendered on your car
15. Did the dealership perform the service under warranty
16. IF no, what was the reason given by the dealership
17. Did you call the AHM District Service Representative
18. If yes, did you meet with the DSR? or talk by phone
19. Did the DSR see the car or simply defer to the dealership
20. If not serviced under warranty did the dealership do the work as a one-time courtesy repair
21. If no, what was the final cost of the repair
22. How long did the repair take.
23. Did you read your owner's manual when you bought the car
23. Did the dealer ever mention the potential for over-rev damage when you purchased the car
24. Was the routine service performed by a Honda shop
25. Were all routine service intervals adhered to
26. Optional - Name of dealership where car was purchased
27. Optional - Name of dealership where car was repaired
28. Optional - VIN
Again, SEND YOUR REPONSE BY PRIVATE MESSAGE.
Thanks for your assistance.
