Yeah, but when you take a head to Joe Alanniz he might get done in 7 days or 7 months and you can never tell which!

Nate...shoot heresnowhy a pm. He just went through all this and can tell you how much it all cost for valves/guides/etc and labor at a local machine shop.

The valve seats prolly need repair as well. Simply slapping in a few new valves prolly won't cut it.

i can only recommend alaniz based on my experience.

he's a nice guy. he told me it would take 3 days and finished it in 2 days.

i remember it costs 360 or 380, for steam clean, new valve guides at $8 a piece if i remember correctly...relapped a few valve faces.

i went to atm and can only withdraw $300...so i had $330 total or something, and he said "merry christmas"

but i went back the next week to repay him the difference.

my experience was great and maybe he is getting better with turnaround time compared to the past.

with portflow...

they quoted me a ridiculous price and then said "...you know what...i don't even want your business...this is driver error and in the future you're going to blame me for more driver error problems and it would just be a headache for me."

i was about to cuss him out on the phone...but i said forget it - my decision was easier at that point and went to alaniz.

the head is coming off this weekend...... I will keep you guys posted, I have been talking to a few guys, they are saying Joe is very busy. Although I would prefer to give Joe my business I might not be able to due to time limitations, the S2k is my only car.

also I have E-mailed portflow, I have yet to speak to them on the phone, but they said they can do it in 2-3 days.

my other question is, surfacing the head. that is only if the head is warped correct? If I remove the head cold and per-Service manual sequence, I should be fine right?

thanks everyone!

the head shop will measure your head surface with a precision straight-edge to see if it is warped or if it can be re-surfaced (if it is within servicable limits)

how do these guys know Joe is busy?

give the guy a call and ask him straight up how long it will take.

if you are local, you can drop it off and talk to him face to face.
